The Columbia Orchestra opens its Chamber Concert Series on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 3:00pm at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Fulton. Each of the three chamber concerts in the series will be held at a different venue in the community. The concert on October 29th features the Columbia Orchestra Piano Trio - Concertmaster Brenda Anna, violin; Music Director Jason Love, cello; and pianist Nancy Smith. The program will include one of the best-loved pieces in the chamber repertoire, Johannes Brahms' Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major. Also on the program is Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Cello, a micro-symphony for two virtuosos, which Ravel dedicated to Debussy. The concert opens with the local premiere of a lush, impressionist Piano Trio by Chinese-American composer Zhou Tian.
The Chamber Concert Series continues on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3:00pm at Glenelg United Methodist Church, 13900 Burntwoods Road, Glenelg, MD. The third and final concert in the series will be Sunday, June 10, 2018 at 3:00pm at Howard County Center for the Arts, Black Box Theatre, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City, MD. The February and June concerts will showcase various ensembles from the orchestra including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings, performing a diverse array of short masterworks.
Thanks to the generosity of the venues hosting the chamber concerts, admission is free. Donations to support the Chamber Series are appreciated.
