This was a grim news week, with the exception of the Israeli Embassy to the United States' notable use of "Mean Girls Diplomacy." As millennials increasingly take the diplomatic reigns around the world, it's probably safe to assume this won't be the last meme-based approach to conducting foreign policy. Wherever you fall as it relates to Middle Eastern affairs, it's safe to say that this response spurred a much higher level of engagement and attention than standard/vanilla diplomacy-speak. Along those lines, I'm excited to see how Justin Trudeau may be able to use, say, Ralph Wiggum to sum up this week's G-7 Summit.
On a more somber note, the tragic and untimely passing of both Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain hit close to home this week. I'm not normally one to be overly upset by celebrity deaths, but the manner by which both prematurely passed is heartbreaking. Mental illness and depression remain far too taboo in this day and age. They're far from uncommon, and it's time we get more comfortable talking about them publicly.
If you know somebody that may be feeling this way, please reach out to somebody. It can make all the difference. If you're feeling this way, don't keep it to yourself.
