On The Town at Olney Theatre Center now extended - 2018

Public Policy Partners of Baltimore City Health Department

As noted by PPP in our last newsletter, June’s primary election has already prompted significant changes in the composition and leadership of the Maryland General Assembly. PPP will be working with clients to prepare for these changes and new committee assignments when they are announced after the general election in November. Changes to leadership positions within the Senate and House of Delegates that have been announced by President Mike Miller and Speaker Mike Busch, to take effect in January 2019, include:


Senate Leadership Announcements:

>> Senator Nancy King (district 39-Montgomery County) will serve as Chair of the Budget & Taxation Committee.
>> Senator Bill Ferguson (district 46-Baltimore City) will serve as Vice Chair of the Budget & Taxation Committee.
>> Senator Paul Pinsky (district 22-Prince George’s County) will serve as Chair of the Education, Health & Environmental Affairs Committee.
>> Senator Shirley Nathan-Pulliam (district 44-Baltimore City and County) will serve as Vice Chair of the Education, Health & Environmental Affairs Committee.
>> Senator Delores Kelley (district 10-Baltimore County) will serve as Chair of the Finance Committee.
>> Senator Brian Feldman (district 15-Montgomery County) will serve as Vice Chair of the Finance Committee.
>> Senator Bobby Zirkin (district 11-Baltimore County) will continue to serve as Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee.
>> Senator Will Smith (district 20-Montgomery County) will serve as the Vice Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee.


House Leadership Announcements:

>> Delegate Kathleen Dumais (district 15-Montgomery County) will serve as the new House Majority Leader.
>> Delegate Luke Clippinger (district 46-Baltimore City) will serve as Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
>> Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary (district 13-Howard County) will serve as Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
>> Delegate Eric Bromwell (district 8-Baltimore County) will serve as Vice Chair of the House Economic Matters Committee.
>> Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk (district 21-Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties) will serve as Vice Chair of the House Health and Government Operations Committee.
>> Delegate Kris Valderrama (district 26-Prince George’s County) will serve as Deputy Speaker Pro Tem.
>> Delegate Keith Haynes (district 44A-Baltimore City) will serve as Deputy Majority Leader.
>> Delegate Eric Luedtke (district 14-Montgomery County) will serve as Chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
>> Delegate Jazz Lewis (district 24-Prince George’s County) will serve as Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
>> Delegate Jay Walker (district 26-Prince George’s County) will serve as Vice Chair of the House Ways & Means Committee.
>> Delegate Darryl Barnes (district 25-Prince George’s County) will serve as Assistant Speaker Pro Tem.
>> Delegate Cheryl Glenn (district 46-Baltimore City) will serve as Vice Chair of the Rules and Executive Nominations.
>> Delegate Michael Jackson (district 27B-Calvert and Prince George’s County) will serve as Chair of the Joint Committee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Biotechnology.
>> Delegate Sandy Rosenberg (district 41-Baltimore City) will serve as Chair of the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee.
>> Delegate Ben Barnes (district 21-Anne Arundel and Prince George's Counties) will serve as Vice Chair of Capital Budget Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee.
>> Delegate Mark Chang (district 32-Anne Arundel County) will serve as Vice Chair of Public Safety & Administration Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee.
>> Delegate Shelly Hettleman (district 11-Baltimore County) will serve as Chair of the Joint Committee on Audit of the House Appropriations Committee.
>> Delegate Brooke Lierman (district 46-Baltimore City) will serve as Vice Chair of the Transportation & Environment Subcommittee and the Pension Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee.


People on the move:
Ashley Black has been named the lead attorney in the Access to Health and Benefits project at the Public Justice Center. Ms. Black formerly worked at Disability Rights Maryland as a mental health attorney.

Chrissy Vogeley is the new Public Relations Manager/Legislative Liaison for the Office of Children’s Services in Alaska. Ms. Vogeley is formerly with the American Occupational Therapy Association and is also a former intern at Public Policy Partners.


Accolades:
Congratulations to the Baltimore City Health Department for being named the 2018 Local Health Department of the Year by the National Association of City and County Health Officials.
